Committee Descriptions

From HERE to CAREER! Academy:  Committees, based on GCCA Standards and Assurances

Governance and Leadership:  Ensures that the CCA operates under shared governance and leadership that support the Academy’s Performance Contract, maintain relationships with business and industry partners, and fully utilize flexibility to support student performance and school effectiveness.

Work may include:

·      Reviewing and revising mission statement and goals;

·      Tracking annual performance goals, scheduling governing board training, and fiscal management;

·      Adopting and revising by-laws;

·      Aligning Roles & Responsibilities with MOUs and other agreements;

·      Adopting a budget for workforce development activities;

Strategic Planning and Sustainability:  Maintains and communicates a purpose and direction that fully utilizes flexibility to support a commitment to high expectations for learning as well as shared values and beliefs about teaching and learning.

Work may include:

·      Developing goals for school improvement to align with and be included in the school system’s strategic plan;

·      Reviewing pathway options to ensure alignment with employer needs;

·      Developing and implementing a process to receive input from stakeholders;

·      Establishing a process to ensure collaboration between CCA BOD & CCPS BOE;

·      Adopting and implementing a marketing plan and materials;

·      Developing opportunities for parents and the community to participate in CCA activities;

·      Soliciting investments from partners to maintain high quality programs and activities for workforce development.

Teaching and Assessing for Learning:  Maintains curriculum, instructional design, and assessment practices that fully utilize flexibility to support and ensure teacher effectiveness and student learning.

Work may include:

·      Determining innovative practices to ensure that students are college and career ready;

·      Evaluating curriculum, instruction, and assessments;

·      Evaluating and reporting performance data;

·      Collaborating with businesses to provide real-world experiences (apprenticeships, internships, job shadowing, and mentoring) for students and externships for teachers;

·      Establishing methods to monitor and evaluate workforce development activities to determine success.

Economic and Workforce Development:  Maintains career pathways, dual enrollment, and post-secondary certifications that fully utilize flexibility to support economic and workforce needs of the community.

Work may include:

·      Creating stakeholder engagement and input opportunities;

·      Collaborating with businesses and industry to ensure appropriate technical, work ethic, and employability skills are embedded in instruction;

·      Using data to evaluate work-based learning to continually improve the program;

·      Developing relationships with employers in the region to increase work-based learning opportunities;

·      Participating in region and state economic development activities;

·      Reviewing certifications earned by students to ensure alignment with employer job requirements;

·      Seeking funding or in-kind donations (if necessary) for specific equipment and/or services to prepare students for the workforce.
